Lauterach - 08.01.2008
The exclusive GW block train service between Vienna and Bludenz is the latest innovation by the Lauterach-based transport service provider in terms of environmental protection and customer service.
With the "maiden voyage” of the Orange Combi Cargo (OCC), Gebrüder Weiss is setting the tracks for the future in terms of saving resources. Since January 7, the exclusive GW block train has been running from the Federal capital to Bludenz and back, with an intermittent stop in Hall/Tyrol. In times of increasing fuel prices, GW is thus setting a further milestone in the Austrian transport market. The environmentally friendly way to the CEE countries and Switzerland Three winners The Gebrüder Weiss organisation
GW is the first private forwarding company to offer its customers (including REWE, Coca Cola and Rauch) a cost-effective and economically stable alternative in East-West transport – complete with a positive eco-friendly ‘bottom line’. Apart from that, GW also guarantees further transport by truck via the terminals at Dunaharaszti (Hungary) and Altenrhein (Switzerland) into the neighbouring foreign countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Southern Germany, Eastern Switzerland) within 48 hours.
"This solution provides three winners: our customers, the environment and innovation,” says Walter Konzett, Director for Land Transport Product Management at GW in Lauterach. The OCC can move 15,000 truck trips per annum from the roads to rail, thus saving 2.5 million litres of diesel fuel. The innovative cooperation model also guarantees even more efficient transport solutions – at a reliably favourable price. "With the OCC, we can guarantee favourable and stable freight rates and calculate our pricing independently of increased road pricing and fuel surcharges,” says Mirko Bösch, GW Branch Manager in Bludenz. "Fiscal policy changes in the road traffic market will no longer have any effect upon our transport services, thanks to the OCC,” explains Adolf Lindner, Head of Product Management at GW Maria Lanzendorf. "When all is said and done, everyone will profit from the reduction in CO2 provided by the OCC.”
With headquarters in Lauterach (Vorarlberg), the GW organisation employs over 4,000 staff in total at 136 locations around the world. In Central and Eastern Europe, GW is represented in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania and the Ukraine. The logistics company recorded a turnover of 870 million Euro for the 2006 fiscal year.
