Strong demand for efficient logistics solutions Growing industrial region Caption: The Gebrüder Weiss Corporation
"The demand for efficient logistics solutions is extremely high; that’s why we are experiencing such strong growth in this area. We urgently need the additional space,” says Gebrüder Weiss Officer and Traffic Director Bernhard Allmann, who is also responsible for the new construction project as its building coordinator. After some initial delays, the company was able to break ground for the first time on September 30th.
The new construction comprises the expansion and modernisation of the existing logistics terminal to over 28,000 sqm: Two additional logistics warehouses with 2,300 sqm are planned along with an extra 3,500 sqm of cargo handling space and 1,200 sqm of office space. The completion of the project in the summer of 2009 will create at least 20 new jobs.
"Besides tourism, Carinthia has long become an important industrial region. We are proud to be able to use our expertise to help shape the dynamic economic growth in our federal state. The global connections within the Gebrüder Weiss network create an additional competitive advantage in the region,” explains Officer Markus Ebner, Operations Manager in Maria Saal.
Peter Schafleitner, Regional Manager for Salzburg and Carinthia, is just as excited about the positive business developments in Carinthia. "We had just completed work on our last investment in cargo handling capacity in autumn of 2006 and we have already had to expand these facilities once again. Above all, our continued investments in training our staff – from apprenticeships to professional training and continuing education – have truly paid off."
