For less urgent deliveries where timetables have some degree of flexibility, trains can be an attractive alternative to trucks: not only are they environmentally-friendly, offer large capacities and favourable freight rates, but they never ever get stuck in traffic. Rail Cargo organises the transport of bulk cargo – exclusively by train – throughout all of Europe. GW Rail Cargo Ges.m.b.H., operating as an autonomous subsidiary of Gebrüder Weiss since 1993, has developed into one of Austria’s largest rail carrier in record time. A success which can also be measured in numbers: just last year, close to 862,000 tons of freight were transported – that corresponds to approximately 20,000 4-axle waggons and thus roughly 40,000 (saved) truck trips.
With the environmental argument as well as low-priced options for large-volume goods, GW Rail Cargo easily trounces "normal” routes of transportation. Main customers are mineral oil, chemical and agricultural companies.
